FASS essay

(FASS)
I am a passionate individual with a relentlessly inquisitive nature & a wide range of interests. I assert that there’s always something interesting to be learnt even from the trivial or mundane. I’m always in pursuit of knowledge & understanding. I affirm that life, when well-examined, reveals untold beauty in its elaborate workings. That we barely understand anything about the universe is something I find compelling.
I have strong views, which I subject to rigorous scrutiny. I love to be challenged for the sake of intellectual stimulation, even if it means sometimes being wrong. I think conventional wisdom should always be questioned, albeit with good reason. I think everyone should have a solid foundation in logic for the benefit of society at large- it should be taught to children! I think that knowledge should be part of a communal, interactive process for maximum benefit to one & all.
I am highly idea-driven. Ideas excite me. More interesting than ideas themselves are the ways they develop, interact, mutate & propagate like living organisms. (Startlingly like viruses, if you think about it!) I’d love to study ideas like anthropologists study people- Surely the insights derived would be very relevant to our times!

Accomplishments- I was in the Gifted Education Programme in St Hilda’s Primary & Victoria School. I was a Student Councillor & Orientation Group Leader in TPJC, where I coordinated group efforts to organize school events. I led my band Armchair Critic to play on local radio & at prominent venues like the Esplanade through effective marketing and networking. (I also like to think we’re a pretty decent band.) We organized concerts of our own, which is a complex and tedious process: sourcing out venues, equipment rental, designing and printing tickets and flyers, promoting the events, exploiting the mass media.
