pre-enlistee drama

I haven’t even enlisted and my NS so drama already.

I went for my medical check up at MCC at CMPB in July 2009; the MO suspected that I might have something called Marfan’s Syndrome simply because I’m really tall, and temporarily put me in PES D.

So they sent me to NUH’s cardiac clinic to check whether I did have Marfan’s- I had to go to NUH about 3-4 times to do a whole series of checks, some of which had to be postponed until late January this year because of my A levels. At the end of it all, it turns out that I don’t have Marfan’s whatsoever, and I was given a letter to send back to CMPB.

Two months later and I still have no idea what my PES status is (although I anticipated that it would be PES A, because I was getting A’s on everything at MCC)- and I don’t know when I’m enlisting either. All my JC mates have already enlisted, or know that they will enlist in April. I was getting nervous so I called up CMPB- and it turns out that I was still PES D. I pressured them to give me an enlistment date, which they told me that they couldn’t do because of my undefined PES.

Today I get a letter in the mail from MINDEF saying that I have been graded as PES E9 L9 (fit for administrative duties only) for 6 month(s), and this PES grading will take effect upon enlistment– and will be reviewed to a SAF medical board when it expires.

This bothers me because it seems to suggest that I will enlist directly as a clerk or something without BMT! I’m very sure that I am combat fit; the cardiologist at NUH was certain as well. I’m hoping to go to OCS or SISPEC or something meaningful, and I refuse to rot away in clerk hell ;_;

Suggestions?

    Suggestions?

    Come, I interview you, we’ll take some vaguely scandalish pictures and then I’ll splash this whole amusing affair over the front page of TNP in bright tabloid colours. Handphone not included.

    No, I’m kidding. Try writing to CMPB? I’m PES D atm too, but I’m not too bothered.

    I’m quite surprised that they thought you had Marfan’s; I dont remember you looking like someone with Marfan’s. Apart from being very tall. The guy that acted as the main zombie in Rec, now he had Marfan’s and had REALLY tiny lungs (among other things) Marfan’s sufferers simply arent fit at all.

    Just call CMPB directly and tell them they are out of their minds and this may seem like a pussy thing to do, BUT if all else fails get your parents to talk. They refused to take Bong in after over a year until his parents stepped in and told them to get a move on it. Couple of weeks later, his enlistment letter came in.

    Go figure. =\
