nights amidst

well it’s been abit of a rollercoaster weekend!

it’s been a surprisingly busy time for armchair critic, suddenly finding ourselves playing 2 shows and having multiple recording sessions.

Friday was fun. It was E-Learning day in TPJC so I didn’t have to go to school! Boon was feeling a little frustrated with not getting any work done in school so he decided to skip school and study with me. Ahmad decided to do the same, because good things come in threes. So Boon came down to my place at 6 in the morning, snuck into my house and slept on my room floor until about 8 am when we bummed around watching bands on myspace and youtube.

After that we went to Marine Parade Polyclinic to buy Boon his first MC. It was hilarious how much he worried about being convincing and sick, being his first time in a polyclinic or something. Ahmad came much later, and we got a number for him so he didn’t have to wait at all. Ahmad’s queue was shorter, but apparently they lost his file or something so he was delayed.

We realised that Armchair Critic has alot of original material.

And several other songs that haven’t even been named. We have to struggle to keep track of our own songs now. We really need to start recording them all so that we don’t forget some of them altogether.

So after that we went down to Boon’s house to study, where Po Liang joined us. I think we actually got quite a bit of work done, personally I was revising my AP/GP. I made hell of alot of mistakes initially but the last few questions went smoothly! It was like mathematical sex. I might just start enjoying maths again. It’s kinda like working out, where the first few times you do it you’re just sore and tired and don’t see anything coming out of it, but once you get past that stage you just “feel the shiok feeling”.

We had a gig at Chinatown that night, and me being the blur king that I am, forgot to properly figure out where the venue was so I had to call the organizer (Erica, who’s a wonderful wonderful girl who’s incredibly polite and bows when she thanks you) to find out. It was funny to play in front of a large crowd of mostly old people! But they were supportive and we got lots of people to donate (reminescent of Somethingood at Orchard).

Later on this 51 year old guy came over and told us how he liked us and we let him re-live his younger days when he played in a band, and went to Japan to eat and fuck. He also taught us his four-fold principles of life, that is, a man should Drink, Smoke, Gamble and Fuck. What a sage. He went on to tell us how he has a mistress in Japan who has cybersex with him and he made her give his two sons (19 and 21) a free show over the webcam. (“Don’t tell mummy, this is just between us three boys.”) Then about how he brings them to bars and geylang and whatever not so that they learn from him instead of anyone else.

What a man.

So then we went to TNT studios to record, where we met a gem of a man in Ah Boy, who is now my favourite studio guy/soundman/recording fella. Poor Boon simply couldn’t get the hang of the metronome, which to be honest was demoralizing, depressing and frustrating for me and Ahmad. He knows it and we know it, but we supported him through it. Either way, nothing got done in the two hours we had and we went home with a slightly bitter taste in our mouths. It was fun though to meet the Plushfool guys (Zach, Ben, Daniaal, Nicky and Kabeer) and we all had a big laugh.

After cabbing home, Saturday came along.

(I’ll blog about Saturday later, I’m going off to Boon’s place to study for my Chemistry test tomorrow.)

=)
