I’ve been in clubs before, but mostly to watch or play live music. I first caught Ronin when they played at Zouk. I’ve personally played at Arena, the old Butter Factory, DXO and a couple of other places here and there- but I always left before the dancing started. I was really self-conscious about the idea of dancing. (I had no idea then that most people just writhe about in time to the music.) I never really liked the places, anyway. It was really dark, noisy, smoky and crowded. As with cigarette smoke, if you’re not comfortable with it, you generally want to be away from it. I was never too comfortable with it, and never had anybody to show me the ropes. I was very intimidated by the whole idea of clubbing, and avoided it entirely. I convinced myself that I wasn’t missing out on much. I heard the horror stories from friends about how people got drunk, got into fights, all sorts of drama that really didn’t seem worth the trouble (and the money.)<\/p>\n
Last night was my first real clubbing experience. I went to Supper Club (supperclub?) with my schoolmates for our post-prom party. I went with an open mind. The music was great. I had previously never properly understood how DJ-ed music could be appreciated, but this time I got it, and enjoyed it. The alcohol was very expensive, but it tasted good and was well mixed. Dancing was a new experience for me. I sort of liked it and can see how it can be fun.<\/p>\n
Ultimately, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze to me. I would rather spend would rather spend the time alone (reading books, working out, thinking) or with friends (playing music, games, sports, eating, watching DVDs…).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
