locust-style social effect<\/p>\n

I\u2019m on a train. It\u2019s 218pm, I\u2019m on the east-west line on the way to Buona Vista. There\u2019s a group of people \u2013 I think they\u2019re students, I can\u2019t tell where they\u2019re from. Maybe ITE students. I\u2019m writing this because it\u2019s interesting to me how a small group of people are much noisier than the rest of the train. There is a locust aspect to a group of friends. Social dynamics changes as you increase the number of people in a public place.<\/p>\n

A while ago I was having dinner with a friend and our spouses and there was a large group of young people having dinner. From what I could gather, they were students \u2013 wasn\u2019t sure if they were from JC or Poly.<\/p>\n

Other things I\u2019ve noticed \u2013<\/p>\n

Girls having a face to face conversation, where they were very obviously paying attention to each other\u2019s facial expressions. I\u2019m not sure what they were talking about specifically, but they were really looking at each other. I don\u2019t think boys make nearly as much eye contact with one another.<\/p>\n
